Hi all,
I'll be headed through the Lexington/ Louisville KY regions this summer and was wondering if anyone could point me to some mando-centric music stores. Vintage, new, (preferably both)--I have a serious case of MAS! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

First Quality Music Supply is the only one that comes to mind as being worthwhile. It is, however, TREMENDOUSLY worthwhile. Great selection, great service. I haven't been to any other store that even came close. They advertise on the cafe, so links should be plentiful. They're just outside of Louisville. There are a few stores in Lexington that carry a few mandos, but nothing really worth mentioning.

Yep, FQMS. Good shop, good fun.

Let's see... Today is an anomaly, the Irish session in Molly Malone's is today because Easter fell on the 3rd Sunday... If you're in Louisville on the 3rd Sunday of a month, come on by and have a tune. Molly's is in the Bardstown Road, a very comfortable place with good food and a fine array of nice things to drink, too.

FQMS for sure. I tused to deal with Guitar Emporium (http://www.guitar-emporium.com/cgi-bin/quickdb.cgi?searchstring=u) many years ago. That link is to their mandolin/banjo/uke page so you can see what is there.

You'd think in the "bluegrass state" there would be more good mando stores--but of course they're probably refering to the turf, not the tunes. Thanks for the input everyone, and thanks for the invite Steve! I'll be sure to stop in if the stars align properly. I'm a relative newbie for serious Irish mando playing, so I might leave most of the tunes to the real players out there--but I play uilleann pipes and the dreaded bodhra/n if either of those are of use in the seisiun.

FQ is a good store for production mandolins and accessories.

Unfortunately, we don't have a good store for vintage, or one that carries any of the independent builders.

A couple of that area's builders come to mind: Homer Ledford in Winchester (don't know if he's still building or has any on hand) and Melrose Music down in Danville (Jerry Scott is the owner and makes mandos/sells used ones).

Willcutt guitars on Southland Drive in Lex is a cool place w/lots of guitars and the occasional used decent mando. New ones they sell are (or used to be) Kentucky and epi.
