I just read on the Gianna Violins site that Eastman has their first "big name artist" endorsement. #After trying out several different makes/models of mandolins, Gretchen Wilson "Redneck Woman" has decided to play and endorse Eastman Mandolins

Don't have to. She pays someone to do it for her.

I'm not sure if a positive quote from "Bobby Hendricks Guitar / Instrument Tech for Gretchen Wilson" really means that Gretchen is endorsing Eastman. #

Good point. Although it does mean that a headlining Nashville act will be performing regularly with an Eastman. Also, Eastman has it listed on thier website and my guess is they at least asked permission. People talk all the time on this board "as if" someone playing a certain brand or model is some kind of endorsement, even though few of those situations actually are endorsements.

Good on them - maybe they can give Gibson some competition.

Good for Eastman. What's more, good for mandolins. The more mainstream music embraces the mandolin the better for our community. Chris Thile inspired me to my first mandolin and he's hardly a Monroe style mando player. If seeing Gretchen Wilson's act with a mandolin inspires someone to play then that's good. Even if the messenger isn't your style (and she isn't mine) the message is still great. Mando's are great.

Excellent point!!! Lack of regulation in this industry produces some amazing statements that would never be accepted in other markets. It's just funny to me.

I think having Roscoe Morgan or equivalent is a more valid endorsement.

Is anyone aware of a Jazz player using Eastman ovals A's? Seems like there was a preference for the old Gibson's of the teens, etc.

maybe next, weber mandolins will use that guy that escaped from prison with his dog trainer girlfriend, and holed up in a cabin with a weber mandolin and a "oh brother" songbook.......

I do think that she endorses Epiphone guitars though or at least she graces their advertisements for the Masterbilt series. #Doesn't matter to me either way, but I did notice that on Faith Hill's new single "The Lucky One," there are credits for an acoustic mandolin and an electric mandolin. #Lots of mandolin in that country song #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

every time I hear a Great Big "Hell Yeah" I cringe and quickly change the station. Good for mandos but for me it's who is Gretchen Wilson.:D

I am not into commercial country that much, but I like Gretchen well enough. She is a local area girl from where I was born and I think her stuff is unique and honest. I get the feeling she has actually had every conversation that her lyrics describe.

Yeah, boy. I'm a'skeered a' them, too. Hell, I think even Bill Monroe would be skeered of these folks. And he actually played the mandolin (last time I looked).

Endorsements. I consider them somewhat nauseating.

I shouldn't get political but I must point out that there is a guy in Gretchen's latest video that has a sign "Buy American." And she plays Epiphone and now Eastman?? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
