I'm brand new here and to the mando-world in general.

I just posted a question in the theory forum requesting suggestions for learning materials (and a little biographical info). I also asked for some recommended listening material to help bring me up to speed on the bluegrass, fiddle-tune, etc. genre. Especially material that might be approachable for a novice with some guitar experience.

I thought that this specific request might oughta be posted in this forum.

Thanks,
Chris

It really depends on what style of Bluegrass you are into, be it trad. or newgrass or a mix of both.

A good place to start is at Bluegrassbox.com. #You can download free shows but they also have streaming audio.

Personally I would suggest a show by Hot Rize, the Del McCoury Band, or the Tony Rice Unit. #But there are a TON of shows on there, but this will get you started.

At the risk of being accused of self-promotion, I'm one of a group of hosts of a radio program called "Bluegrass Ramble" here in Seattle. #Our show airs every Sunday from 12:00 to 3:00 PM (Pacific) and can be picked up on internet at www.kbcs.fm or on the radio at 91.3FM in the Puget Sound area.

This month I'm starting a new feature called Bluegrass A-B-C's where each month I take a letter from the alphabet and delve into our record library (over 1400 CD's) to come up with programming. This might a good introduction to bluegrass. I usually feature a good number of mando players, not really sure why though <winks>

I'm on the 4th Sunday of each month.

Get yourself some early Bill Monroe, the Father of Bluegrass, for more traditional Bluegrass.
Try something like Manzanita by Tony Rice for more modern Bluegrass, with some hot fiddle tunes in there too.
Manzanita is already a classic & will introduce you to some of the hot contemporary players, Tony Rice,
Sam Bush, Ricky Skaggs, Darol Anger, Todd Phillips and David Grisman. These boys can pick!
