Old Gibson Pickguard Clamp

OK, so I got this 1920 mandola this afternoon and the pickguard clamp buzzes. I've never owned an old Gibson before so this mechanism is new to me. Any suggestions before I weld it? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

Yeah...don't think of welding it!!!!
Try putting small pieces of felt under the metal piece on the bottom and under the bracket that sits on the top.

I'll try some felt tomorrow - that'll probably do the trick. I haven't decided what is actually doing the rattling/buzzing: the metal pieces against themselves or the whole thing against the body. I know I can stop it by exerting pressure upwards on the guard (or by simply damping the clamp).

I was kidding about welding it...

Simple solution...

...just take the pickguard off.
