Can anyone tell me what those rubber gromets? are called that some mando players have on the strings between the bridge and the tailpiece? Also where can I purchase them?

You can get them from Steven Stone here on the Cafe, in which case they are called Steve's Silencers, or from Radio Shack, in which case they are called "those rubber grommets." This seemingly innocuous topic has provoked as much passion as anything except, maybe, Chris Thile's hair, so I offer no opinion on which route you should take. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif

I recently bought a Brekke "Wood Nymph" from Weber. Actually I ordered it for $15 from elderly.com It accomplished the deadening of the overtones but also provide a nice anchor point for my picking hand behind the bridge. I like it.
