Thanks to the good advice of several posts here, I just bought a new Eastman MD 815. Wow, talk about bang for the buck value, I got it. Since I wanted to actually play the instrument before buying, I made the two hour drive to The Mandolin Store in Washington Court House, Ohio. Mine (she's a blonde)has some serious finish blemishes (hence a great price). I Guess the quality control guys were out to lunch at Eastman that day. The folks at The Mandolin Store were gonna send it back but decided to sell it at a discount. Thanks to those of you who recommended Eastman. I am very pleased.

Mandolin Store? Washington Courthouse? I had no idea. I'll have to make a trip there sometime--it's couple hours from here, too.

Well, The good people of Washington CH had no idea either. The store is very non-descript. My advice is download the map and phone number from their website and look very carefully for the small sign nestled humbly in a doorway. Get this, You go in the double doors, up the steps, through a hall, out another door, across a catwalk, into another building, and listen for the jamming. It was a whole new adventure in shopping. Oh, they are apparently moving soon so maybe the next shop will be easier to find. They were good people and I feel I got a good deal.

You forgot the part about turning left where the big red barn used to be!
Congrats on your Eastman!!!

Don't hesitate to give The Mandolin Store a try, owners Dennis and Kathy Vance are as good as they come and they know the importance of good customer service. I've been buying instruments from them for several years now and couldn't be happier. Dennis loves to talk instruments and will play an instrument your interested in over the phone. The Mandolin Store is now advertised here on the Cafe.

Sounds like the intro to "Get Smart"...Did they have the "cone of silence" for banjo players?

Congrats Drybones. Lefty mandos are probably hard to come by and yours looks great! Mine is the MD604CL still on the website. Yes, Dennis is wonderful to deal with. Let us know how you like it.
