Just wanted to let everyone know how great an event the all day Compton workshop in Bloomington was, and how well
arranged it was by Jim. The facilities were top notch and
reasonable, the people were great and the workshop was fantastic, though I might be suffering from information overload.

One thing that was really a blast was getting to meet some fellow cafe members. Tony a.k.a. red7flag, James from Indy, Scott from Cincy, J.R. from Wisconsin, John from Bloomington and others whos names didn't stick. All were
great guys.

How exciting it was at the Friday night jam session to be playing with these guys and Mike Compton, Will Kimble, and
Steve Gilchrist. Unfortunately in the circle I was right after Scott from Cincy and J.R. from Wisc.. What I mean by this is both were awesome players, they would take their breaks and then Compton would look at me to go next. No pressure there. Fortunately everyone was very tolerant of vastly different skill levels.

Before anyone asks, I tried to take pictures but was saddled with a borrowed camera that seemed to have some problems. I think Tony took tons though and can probably help out. The only drawback of the weekend was that while everyone else was trading wonderfull instruments back and forth, I sat there alone with my lefty.

I could go on but I don't want to bore anyone. Its one of those things where I guess you had to be there.

Glad you enjoyed it,Mike. #I think it was a special weekend (esp. with Steve and Will coming out), though I'm glad the thing is over. #Lot of work, but I'm glad it paid off for everyone.

I agree... a great weekend. Jim a fantasically (is that a word?) organizaed event. The B&B was awesome, good weather, good pickers, good teacher, good music.

Mike, your teaching kicks my wheel hoss, you are a very demanding and exciting teacher. I appreciate what you did for us this weekend and what you do for the music in general, I can't wait til the next workshop. I know I speak for more then myself when I say I learned tons of useable material.

Thanks Mike.

Cedartop I agree the Jam was a blast... tolerant is not the right word, excited about the different skill levels is more appropriate. Remember any player out there whose playing you respect was a beginner at some point, and someone was as you say "tolerant" of them or I say "excited" to share the music. Keep picking you are doing GREAT, and sorry for the nicks I put your headstock.. (darn left handed (but great looking and sounding) mandolins!)

Thanks again everyone!

What a great day with Mike Compton. This is the third workshop I've done with him, and he keeps getting better and better as a teacher.Don't pass up the chance to go to one of his classes.
