Greetings Mandolin Cafe

I've finally gotten registered in the Cafe (HOT DAWG!!) and would like to introduce myself. #Don't know if this is the norm, but here goes anyway.

My name is Tom. #I'm not really a mandolin player (but I am trying) but I really do appreciate them. #I play guitar with a newly formed group called "The Spanky Moore (Greg Moore) Bluegrass Gang" (www.spankymoorebluegrassgang.com) #Greg is the former fiddler with Dave Evans, Melvin Goins, Wildwood Valley Boys and others. #I was formerly with the Crossroads Bluegrass Band until we broke up. #We play regionally (tri-state, Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana) but who knows, we may break out and travel a little. #My influences are Bill Monroe, Lester and Carter, so you see that I am a little bit on the traditional side. #I currently own Laura Ratcliff's #0018 and have just committed to purchasing Andrew Poe's (Driftwood Mandolins) #3.

So that's me. #Glad to be a memer of the Cafe. #There's a lot of really interesting stuff going on here. #Maybe catch some of you all down the road somewhere.

Tom

Hey Tom,
Welcome to the cafe I have been a member for a couple of years and this is the place to be if your into mandolins.
I have been trying to learn how to pick a mando since 1976 and I am still learning. I play with a group of about 7 or 8 fiddlers we do mostly "old-time" fiddle dance tunes with a few by Mr. Monroe.
Keep on picken!

Still Pickin'

Thanks for the reply and the welcome. Getting with the old time fiddlers is great fun. I really enjoy that a lot. I think that the waltz's are my favorites. I too have been trying to learn mandolin for a long time, in fact, my grandfather's old mando-banjo was my first instrament. Went from there to a cheap Harmony, to a Kentucky 180S, to a Flatiron F5-Artist (which I should have kept)to what I have now. Even if I never learn it, it is still a really great fun-time thing to mess with.

Tom
