I'm suprised that nobody commented on the news release of a second (?) Johnny Staats disc. His first one has great playing, and I'll certainly pick up this next one sometime soon.

If you haven't already, give 'em a listen sometime.

Have a great weekend,
Bill

Bill, I read the press release this weekend. I've been waiting for several years for a new release. I've played Wires & Woods to death. Johnny lives about 20 miles north or me. I've been to about 15 of his shows. I saved the paper that had some upcoming show dates. Let me know of you're interested and I'll dig it out.

On the first CD, I really like his instrumentals. Schaefer's reel is one of my favorites to play -though I do not play it as quick. The singing tunes seem a bit commercial.

I'll share (B+P) a 2 disc show recorded in someone's living room of these two guys - all tunes, good lick arsenal material. oldstrings@hotmail.com

Alan,

Do you know whose living room it is?

He has played in my friend Ed's place a couple of times! In fact Ed Fortuna is thanked on the new CD!

Man I gotta get the new CD, gonna send of for it tomorrow!

They should call "Wires and Wood", "Paper and Plastic" because that was was left when I played it a MILLION times!

I got the tab for "Mandolin Meltdown" and even using my Slow Downer with the music slowed down to 20% I STILL cannot get the song under my fingers!

Johnny Staats is a fantastic player!

jim_n_virginia,
I'm still playing Wires and Wood cd pretty often. Where can I get the tab for Mandolin Meltdown? Staats is one of my very favorites. I am sad to hear there is no singing on the new Staats/Shafer cd;I don't feel like his singing on W&W was particularly commercial;I like his singing;but I love his picking. He played a "Buckeye" mandolin on W&W,right?

Picked it up this weekend at Budget Tapes and Records. It's already a new favorite. By the way, I was at the Mountain Statge show that 's the picture on the front cover of the CD.
