I have a mandolin that the back is starting to seperate from the rib near the tailpiece. Is this a really major repair and would anyone know the approximate cost of repairing it? Thanks for any input.

Dave, It is a little hard to say without actually seeing the extent of the separation. #It could be a minor repair or major one so it would be hard to put a repair cost on it.

I am trying to get ahold of the builder to see what the options are but have not received a response back yet. Thanks.

Dave, is the top or back seperating from the butt or sides where they come together? And if so, how long and wide is the seperation? Kenc

Ken, I am going on the description from a guy I just sold it to. He said I believe it was the back and the seperation was 2 to 3 inches at the tailpiece area, he said it was seperating from the side or the rib. He said there was no damage so I do not think shipping caused it. It had been about 2 months since I had played it and I really did not look it over that close before I shipped it so I really do not know when it started to seperate. I had no problem with it holding its tuning so I am guessing that it happened when he brought the string tension back up after shipping. Needless to say I am sick about it and told the guy I will pay for whatever repair is necessary. He is being a real good sport about it and is taking it in stride.
