Recently my Morgan Monroe MMS-3 after 6 months since purchased, almost overnight changed sound.I now here a very
metallic ringing sound.Changed strings no improvement.
cannot see where any of the braces are cracked.I keep it in
a humidified case. All this while I'am in the middle of recording a Bluegrass CD with my Martin guitar and Mandolin. I guess you get what you pay for.I should of spent the 550.00$ on a Gibson A-9.There are no local Gibson
dealers here in western PA except Guitar Center and for some
reason they never have any Gibson mandolins on display.I have searched the internet and find the A-9 selling anywhere from 1250.00$ to 1850.00$ at Muscians Friend,I
do not understand that price ? Who has the best price
and is most trustworthy in regard to the A-9 ?

Occasionally an A-9 will appear on the Classifieds here at the Cafe around 1000. I've seen one lately on Ebay, autographed by Doyle Lawson. I think they were wanting about 1100. I don't know if it sold last time. I remember checking with a store in California when I was shopping for an A-9 last year that had one in stock that had been autographed by Sam Bush. It's probably gone though. At that time they were wanting I think about 1300.

I found one at a music store a couple of weeks ago. They were selling it as new, with warranty, for $950. On the low side, they just wanted to move it.

Guitar Center is no longer a Gibson dealer. Any Gibson mandolins will be old stock.

No, I'm holding it for a gent who sent me a deposit. He's getting his cash together and I was in no hurry. If for any reason it falls through, I've got a list of several folks to contact and if all that fails, I'll repost the ad. But, no... it's not available now.

Morgan Music (morganmusic.com) has one listed now for $999.95, I believe. It's a used one. I've heard they are good people to do business with.

If you find an A9 close to $1k, over or under, I would say buy it up. Mine was a FANTASTIC mandolin, and I regret selling it more than anything I've ever sold. The guy that bought mine said it sounded better than his F-5L!
I bought my A9 used for 1000$ from an individual, so I saved the tax and got a good TKL case with it.
I've found mandolins have two modes -- I call them normal and overdrive. My A9 has superb normal mode tone, full, easy, fuill bass, with punchy mids and clear highs. It barks OK and does everything else well.
But it has no overdrive. None, zip, nothing. If you play it hard, it just runs out of juice. It is strung with J74s (a moderately heavy string), and the action is medium-high. Raising the action didn't give it any overdrive.
Still, for a kilobuck, it's a good mandolin.
