My 20's Gibson A is housed in a newer case these days and I have no interest in keeping the case (or ever selling the Gibson), so I thought I might pass (sell) the case along to a Gibson owner who has an interest.

It has no structural problems, just some significant blemishes, etc. that one would expect from a case that's 80+ years old.

What would a fair price range be for such a case in fair-good shape?

Thanks for any input.

I think about 100. I say that because once, in the course of buying an instrument for which I already had a newer case, the very reputable dealer I was working with said I could leave the case with him and that it was worth 100. to him. Hope that helps. In other words, he would have taken 100. off the price of the mando I was purchasing. J

It depends on the condition. Generally they bring about $175-$225. But I've seen anywhere from $125 to $375

They come in several flavors..

flannel (usually purple)
velvet (purple, or green)
silk velvet (usually green or red)

The light green silk ones are usually the most desired, they were used in the magical loar period on the high-end snakeheads

Thanks for the great info thus far. What about the plain 'ol black cases? Like this one at Elderly? That's what I have. Would that fact that it is the case for my Ajr make a difference?

Thanks again!

Now, you talk about the 50's brown square or the original 20's square - whole 'nother game.

That's what we are talking about, Dans post is referencing the lining colors

I probably paid a record price for this case. But, it speaks for itself

Okkaayy... I feel like a complete idiot.

The inside is green velvet (albeit somewhat faded in spots).

Would that fall in the middle of the price range Darryl mentioned?

Hmm, $300 seems high for that ebay one.. but ebay is ebay and you have no idea if the bidders have 10 to sell and are "puffing" the market up!

I'd guess $175-200
