D'Addari0 nickel round wound strings med any suggestions as to different strings I'm looking for something a little more mellow? and what about flat wound? possibly bronze,and or lights THANKS FRED

extra light bronze wound is on mine at this point ..009 - .036
2 sets of tenor strings in the past... Vega lil wonder, remo renassance head. water all around here, forget skin.
old grey wool bootsock between the rimstick and head.

the rolled up sock varys the tone depending on which part of the head its under...a plunkyness tone control.

I use GHS Silk and Steel on mine. Mellow and nice.
Silk & Steel works best for me too.

The common wisdom for a mandolin banjo is to use light weight strings like the 34-009s because a mandobanjo is not built like a real mandolin and over time will not tolerate the stresses a set of standard strings bring. Besides, the MB is a loud instrument by definition so you will not need the extra power that heavier strings bring.
If well set-up the sound is not so bad. I have a Weymann that I love but I only force it on large sessions when I am in a punitive mood (or there is an infestation of rats.) <G>
