I was surfing the web and came across some photos of instruments by this maker and was wondering if anyone had played any of his stuff. It looks really nice. He makes hammered dulcimers and harps as well, but I'm curious what opinions are of his octaves and zouks.

He's from Bedford, VA, right? I found his website too once, sounds like a good deal and you pick the woods, etc. I would give him a call or email.

I don't know much about James' bouzoukis, but I've bought two hammered dulcimers from him, and they're both fine instruments. He's friendly, easy-going and very patient, so if you're interested, don't hesitate to call.

Yes, that's him. Nice looking stuff and thoughtful choices in woods and hardware...I was just wondering if anyone had played his instruments. I'm really not in the market or I would have grabbed the Davey Stuart octave that was in the classifieds a few weeks ago.

James is the hardest working luthier I know, and he builds very nice instruments.Yes, he is a friend of mine, and he is primarily a hammered dulcimer builder, but his zooks and octaves are nice too! A few years ago John Doyle used one on his first solo cd, and it sounded darn good.
