My parents just told me that they are flying me home for easter and they want to celebrate my birthday when i come in. My mom has asked me what kind of mandolin i am looking at buying and she plans on buying me one when i come in (or at least putting together an order)

i havent played any other than a fender, and ovation, and a "high end" ovation (which felt REALLY cheap)

i keep going back and fourth between acoustic and electric. but i think ive decided on acoustic with a pick up. So im going to take your word for it. ive heard about mid mo's but i cant vouch for anything. i know i already made a thread about this a couple weeks ago, but im down to the 11th hour.

You can sneak in for under a grand on a used Breedlove Quartz or Rigel Natural. Is that an option or must you buy new?

Or, support the Classifieds and jump, right now, on the used Gibson A9. I don't know Matt but you could both be happy real soon.

I played a $200 kentucky a-style and LOVED it. That way, you'll have plenty left over! Maybe mando symposium or merlefest could be in your future!

yup, those a-9's are NICE! And for $850, it's a steal! (I have no financial interest) Just pointing out a good deal. I think your best bet would be to look for a slightly used a-style. That way you can get a better sounding instrument for a lower price than the f's because the builder does not have to spend as much time carving the scroll etc.. And you don't have that annoying scroll and points in your way all the time! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

It is quite possible to buy a new Breedlove Quartz OF & have a K&K Piezo pickup installed in it. It just might ( can do! ) fall comfortably within your price range to boot........ http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

I bought this A9 from the classifieds for $900 shipped. If I had bought this one first I may not have bought my Flatiron Fes F.
Ah, who am I fooling? I would have bought it.

jpsy422 - I hate to chime in, but I am a reluctant A9 convert. I have owned old Gibsons, nice Michael Kelly's, two great Flatirons, and an assortment of Webers, and loved them all. For the money I spent on it, this A9 has them all beat, and I never set eyes on it till it arrived at my door. If that one still hasn't sold, grab it. The hype is all true, at least in my lucky experience. Gibsons are always re-sellable, on the off chance that you get a honker. I will await the inevitable skewering from Dale now. I can take it. Might hold out for an F9 instead, they seem to be getting cheaper all the time....... #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
