Visit the Eastman Forum http://www.eastmanstrings.com/eastmanmandolins/forum/forum.html to see the new Eastman mandocello prototype that we just got finished. Any comments? Remember, I'm very interested in what you don't like about it. It's basically a 25" scale just like our 805 archtop guitar. The tailpiece looks nice but I think we will ultimately go with a cast tailpiece. The mandocello will retail for $2395. Nobody has them yet so don't go looking. I will have this one at Wintergrass so if you are going you must make a point of coming by and trying it out

Next up will be the octave and bozouki in a few months.

That's really cool. What's the intended scale for the OM and bouzouki?

Bozouki will be 25" also, not sure yet where the octave will fall. Any recommendations?

Very handsome mandocello, Gordon. Glad to see another builder taking on this part of the market.Did you have to do major mods to your bracing, or leave the top thicker to hand eight strings?

21.5" is extremely comfortable for OM's, but you'll see them from 19-23".

Nice work.
Best,
Ken

Oh yes, what I don't like about it. I don't care for binding around F-holes. There you go.

Looks great Gordon. I agree about not liking binding on F-holes. Will the Octave be a Guitar or F/A shaped?
