View Full Version : it's me again
just throwing out another invite........
april 21-22-23......the 3rd recordingproject.com acoustic jamfest.
not sure if'in anyone remembers my posts from last year, so I'll give some details.
we had 8 folks from outa town...New York, Ct., Vermont, N.C., Mass. were all represented, as well as host of local folks. acoustic music was the norm, as well as a few bouts of low key electric jams. lotsa food, and fellowship.
there's plenty of room for camping, inside room for sleeping, as well as using for bad weather, two full bathrooms, etc.
there were 4 mando players involved, including myself. lotsa guitars, some percussion, electric, and stand-up bass, and a keyboard player.
we ask for any donations which were used for expenses, and for paying the main cook a little. BUT THIS IS NOT MANDATORY, only if you are able.
I know there's a lot of music folks close by in N.C. and Va., and would like for any and all to come, whether for a few hours, a day, a night, or the whole week-end.
There's drinking, smoking, and general partying going on, so if that kinda thing doesn't cramp your style you'll feel right at home. last year we had big food...brisket, chicken, sauage, burgers, dogs, all the trimmings, and some give-a-way raffles for expenses.
My address is:

feel free to e-mail, call, or whatever for more info, directions, etc.

sorry for bumping this up........but I find most folks don't write these things down on their calendars. It's at that point, where I'm needing to know if anyone is interested in attending, whether for a day, or the week-end....tenting, no tent, etc.......to plan for food menues...etc.
Feel free to e me or private message, or just call.
And also, being left out of my original post, there's lots of home recording discussion.
Thanks,
Dan
bumping this up top again.........just in case......
i'll help bump it, as i'm jealous and wish you lived closer- sounds like a blast, and def. would not cramp my style! you sound like a whole mess o fun!
it's kinda hard doing these things....as to picking dates...
but way too much fun not to. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
last year we had 3 mando players, and it'd be great to have more. it's growing though. I'd love to see some more members from here try and make some portion of the week-end, if not all. I would think the location is pretty sweet, as to N.C., Va. But I realize also that folks just can't make everything.
Considering folks coming in from Vermont, New York, Ct., and Mass. it's a short trip from N.C. and Va. areas.
And also to mention.....please do not think that donations are mandatory....they are not. If'in anyone wants to attend, we'll feed ya, and get you a place to sleep, whether a tent, or floor space inside. absolutely no donations are required.

Dan
hey dtb- actually from mass. but close enough.
i don't know where andover , CT is (but new england is tiny), and 4/11-13(dates they have listed on that thread you posted above from another site) seem to be midweek so doubtful i can make it, but do you know these folks, where and how i can contact for info??/
peace,
ira
ira.........check again......the BIG jamfest6 in CT. is AUG. 11-13............ http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sleepy.gif #near Hartford, about 10 or so miles east, in the small town of Andover Ct. and yes I know these folks....I've been to that fest 5 years running. my fest is a spin off of sorts, with some of the same folks attending, and leans more for acoustic. the big jam in Ct. is largely electric, with the acoustic jams happening after midnight, due to nosie control. I was (am) the only mando player that has attended that fest so far. I could give you contact info....but the best way to find out more would be check out all the jamfest threads at that .com site. (WARNING: THIS SITE WILL HAVE LOTS MORE B.S. AND NON-SENSE THAN IS ALLOWED HERE IN THE CAFE). It happens at a members home. this year we are expecting 100 members from the recording sites to attend. they have a stage we built, there's cooks that do the food, plenty of camping space, they do a live feed to the internet, it'a all recorded live by a couple fellows that bring enough gear to do Madison Square Gardens, so it seems. and it's totally a huge party. folks come from many states, and from overseas. if you have hours of time you could read the 5 years or so threads that are there. if'in you breeze thru the threads....just look for any reference to jamfest6.
my fest is April 21-23.........and it's the 3rd year I've had it. it's much smaller and mostly all acoustic. my main reason for posting it here, is the fact that there are so many folks from mandocafe that are close by (1-5 hours). we had three mando players last year, and I'd love to see more attend.
Dan
so, is it a jam thing or all performance- and more imoportantly, are you going. hartford is an hour forty from me so i can go, but is it poss to just go hang without staying- any other takers from the metrowest area???
jamfest6 will be the highlight of my year, as were the others I have been to. and yes....it is open jam....if'in you know the tune, or whatever, join in. there was a metal set on Sat. afternoon, from a handful of members that passed the tunz around via the internet, and learned their parts, and they did a 60 minute set. other than that, it's all open. but mind you my friend....electric is the standard. the acoustic jammies happen from midnight on, other than some small gatherings out amongst the tents. and yes....a day trip is fine.....there are others that do that also. 3 good friends come from South Boston, Mass. they came here to my fest last year, but will be missing my fest this year. I will say that it would take something on the lines of death for me not to go. I will be traveling with another pal from N.C. who blows a mean harp. I don't participate in the electric jams much, as there is always someone better than I could ever do, but I can be had for a blues thingy or two. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
as we get closer, and you are still are interested, I'll get you directions, phone numbers, etc. me thinks it would be a great time. there's truely a wonderful bunch of folks attending. there's great fellowship among the attendees. it's a real community thing, not unlike the happenings amongst mandocafe members who have met each other over the years. it's just different music, that's all.

Dan-had a great time this Sat. Thanks so much for hosting such an event. Great house, studio, guitars, mandolins, people from all over and most of all: the great South Boston VA hospitality. Oh yeah-THE FOOD! Tell Harvey he is the Master butt cooker and chicken slinger!
When I got to Scotsburg Baptist Church , Guess who sat with me? HARVEY
Buddah -when you respond, we'll know your user name.
Thanks again # #Tony
I'd like to add, if I may, that Hoovetone (Tony Hoover) is a great dude. A good mando picker, and songster. Tony always had a tune ready if there was a lull in the jam. We may not all have gotten every note right, but it didn't stop anyone from trying. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif And having a great time.
Thanks again, for allowing me to spam the fest here on the cafe. see ya next year.
