Although I'm not a newbie, my budget limits me to the cheaper imports for my mandolin/mandola choices. Last night as I was adjusting the intonation on a new purchase, it hit me that when I was starting out, I wouldn't dared to touch it.
Have it done for you if you're hesitant, or at least watch someone do it. IMHO, if you can operate a decent tuner, you can do it! You might be amazed how the instrumet sounds.
BTW, the mandola played fine, but the bridge was about 1/4" off. Don't confuse action with intonation!
