I have searched for a discussion on the height above the top of the mandolin to the strings.
Has any one done any research on the change of tone and volume, changing the height above the sound board? Any comments appreciated! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

Generally speaking (very!!) the higher the bridge, the louder/stronger the sound....but unless you have an adjustable fretboard, you will run into playability problems.
Also, on the old Italian bowls, you will often see tensioners behind the bridge, not seen much I don't think on US models. This was to increase the break angle of the strings over the bridge, which I guess they thought improved things. That would be something to try.... but not sure if it would work on archtops, their technology is a bit different. Depends what you have.
All the best, Dave (not quite 67 yet I hope)
