I'm going. I can play pretty good. I just wondered what are the best questions to ask. I would like to learn something other than "Compton is AWSOME", I already know that or I wouldn't go. And I can get that at the concert.
What would you ask.
Does he get into what level each person plays to help them more?
What is Compton especially good at teaching?

bowfinger,
MC is a Monroe-style expert. If there's anything you want to know about playing that style he'd be the guy to ask.
you could ask about:
double stops
right hand technique
playing in a group/backing a singer
chord solos
the difference between playing a lot of notes and getting the right sound
Mike's a great guy. Enjoy the workshop!

I attended one of Mikes workshops about 2 years ago.Even though he showed us some tunes and various approaches
to melodies I think listening to Mikes "Lessons from Monroe" were my favorite part.
He'll probably show you this art book, with a really nice picture that you will learn a great lesson from.
Check his classified ad btw, the Prodigal 5 (http://www.mandolincafe.com/cgi-bin/classifieds/classifieds.cgi?search_and_display_db_button=on&db_id=17035&query=retrieval)

The best questions to ask are those that you have. I never went with prepared questions, but just went along with the flow of the workshop, and if I was curious or didnt quite understand what he said I'd ask what came to mind.

I need to tape it if I can find a recorder maybe I should just take the ibook and do it on here. I wonder if that's allowed?

Bowfinger - from Mike's very own web blog: "By the time the workshop got underway, there were over 30 people in attendance. The two of us sat on a small riser in front of the stage. A number of people asked if taping/recording was permitted. It is, always. The ususal disclaimer from me is that, if they can stand to listen to it, by all means." The web page for that is:

So, go for it. Jim Richter is a cafe member who oversees Mike's site, and it's a great one to go visit. The blog is good fun - Mike should be commended for sharing his thoughts and letting everyone in on his mando-world.
Hope you enjoy it.
