I'm going. I know Michael Heiden & Lawrence Smart are among the luthiers going...I'm sure there are more.
Loarfest sounds like it will be a nice pre-festival event. Plan on little sleep & too much fun!

It's an indoor Festival which sorta puts the damper on camp ground pickin'. Expect to see a s$$t pile of Loars on display. Many are calling this the mulit-million dollar festival.

I will be right in the middle of it. Might even take a few tools along.

I have not been to a indoor festival other than the IBMA Trade Shows, so can't comment on how all the picking will work out, but it will somehow.

OK, twist my arm.
I'm coming. I haven't been to California yet this century and I can't wait to see that ocean view. How are the beaches in Bakersfield?

I'll be the one with the buzz cut and the camera photographing anything with a scroll on it ;)

Heh, this time of year it's kind of rainy outside in California. Sequoia Nat'l park nearby, though I've heard it's chains on tires season and sizable snowfall that way.

I'm really excited to come out and meet old friends, plus folks I've not met in person. I've still never met Darryl or Tom in the real universe, just emails & phone calls for the last several years!

What are you bringing along Art, the Heiden?

Gotta say, I'm really looking forward to playing Jamie Wiens's new F5 that he's bringing to the show. Jack loaned him 76547, and he's built a new one with lots of adaptations to the Loar style.. outrageously attentive to vintage detail to the detriment of his sanity http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif From being his archive slave for the past year I have an even deeper appreciation of his devotion!

Hey Dan.....If Michael wants me to bring the Heiden, I certainly will.......I'm going to be in support of Lawrence Smart,
so I'll definitely have several of Lawrence's creations with me for his display. The Heiden is maturing very nicely by the
way.....I was thinking of bringing it to Wgrass.

Hey Jim Hilburn, the ocean views and beaches in Bakersfield are only on the T.V. screens!

I'll be there, but can only figure out how to fly three instruments out there with me. #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

I'll bring a couple of 23V's and the M4C.

We've been having a very mild winter so far in Bakersfield, and no one will need tire chains while visiting here.

Jim: insofar as a ocean view is concerned, I'm afraid we cannot offer that to you. However, we do have some beach-type sand if you're interested, it can be found only about a mile-and-a-half from the Supergrass hotel headquarters at (you gotta love this) Beach Park, next to the Kern River.

I'll be a volunteer at both LoarFest West, and Supergrass; I'm looking forward to seeing and meeting all of the good folks from the Cafe, and be sure to look me up....I'll be happy to give directions to all of the restaurants that don't have a stomach pump on their premises! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I'll be there too.
I'm playing for the kids with a little group Elena Corey puts together, specifically for this purpose, called Twisted Laurel. Me and my buddy Ken will be swapping guitar and mandolin duties.
Should be fun!

The one down side to my recent move is that I am no longer able to drive a few hours to Loarfest. Take lots of pictures!

Hey Jasona, check out the Orbitz website. They list a whole slew of really good roundtrip air fares from around the US into Bakersfield. Today may be the deadline though.

Thanks Craig, but any extra cash I have is going into the "buy jasona his first home" fund.

Excepting, of course, my registration for a workshop with John Reischman early next month

WireBoy--Please be sure that you catch my pals "The Brothers Barton" while you're here for Supergrass. They're not well-known outside California.....yet. They will be playing some sets with Richard Greene, and the musicianship will be astounding!

My little homeboys, the Bartons will also be playing an after hours set in the Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. sponsored lounge stage late Saturday night and at 10 AM Sunday with their brand new bluegrass band. Erik Uglam's kids, the Ward boys, on fiddle and bass and Jason Tharp on banjo round out the band. These young guys will be doing some mighty powerful pickin' and show that our great Bluegrass music really does have a fine future, even out West.

Greg Boyd and myself will be there with House of Fine Instruments booth. We're going to have a great mandolin selection this year.

I hope everyone comes by to say howdy!
