Well if Scott T is into it, I would be willing to donate some money to a mandolin cafe Mandolin Symposium Tuition giveaway similiar to that of the mandolin giveaways. As I recall The Cafe was involved in raising money last year for the scholarship fund. Marshall, Grisman , et al decided who received the scholarships.

jasona.....I'm not evil, just reporting the info...your list of instructors left out a few.

jjboone.....sounds like you'd fit in fine. There were students at all levels. They labeled courses Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced.
I took a few above my head, to see what I should be workin on. There were organized slower jams at night & you can find folks at your appropriate level to pick with.

Just be prepared to meet a lot of young phenoms that can smoke you. It is a humbling experience for many of us.

Jason, you've got a bit of time to save up and you're within driving distance, albeit, a long one. I'd say go for it and then worry about raising the loonies later(easier said than done, of course).

We usually have a fund raiser for scholarships here on the Cafe and CoMando, and I usually do my bit to raise extra funds too (keep an eye out for a few more pick samplers this year!). I am not asking for scholarship support, that should go towards someone who really needs it. (I'm just joking around. I could afford to go theoretically, but have committed my funds to other areas for the next few years and those take priority.)

Hmmm... i smell an oppourtunity here. a series of DVDs on the various courses/seminars offered at the symposium? Those lucky enough with the dough can get the 'in the room ' experience. For those folks on a budget, a DVD encounter would be more than welcomed. maybe Mandolin Cafe Productions can be organized and Scotty T can get a second income stream started. This bears further discussion....

I've been able to go the first two years, and it's been such a great experience that I can't not go now. Sell something...don't but something .....do what you have to. You won't regret it.
Those around me may debate just how much I've learned, but it's like the greatest holiday of your life. No phone, no responsibilities, someone feeds you, you're in a breathtakingly beautiful spot, and everywhere you turn there are like minded folks eager to share.There's every kind of mandolin that people are so generous to show off and let you play. And then comes all the incredibly inspiring classes and concerts and jams and and and.....I can hardly wait.
