Did not take long for MAS to take effect. After finding MC for less than a month, I have a mandolin again after 10 years.
I went to Steve Perry's shop as a formality since I had already decided to get a brand of flat mandolin. Steve showed me around the shop and several Eastman models including some F models with the round sound holes that I prefer.
To bad, I didn't see anything I liked. Steve went to the back and came around with an MD 504 Eastman A model. Not even set up or strung, I was impressed. Then Steve told me the price.
Here before me was a hand carved mandolin, ebony finger board with mother of pearl inlays, adjustable truss rod with ebony cover. very symmetrical and practical tail peice, inlaid sound hole and gold inlaided script on a Gibson guitar style head stock, and an ebony bridge.
Steve began to break it in, literally I thought by squeezing the sides, back, and sides. Some kinda voo doo.
I am scheduled to pick up the MD 504 on Friday. I am not going to comment on what the sound might be like. I realise it takes time to loosen it up. I just wanted to get the word out that Eastman mandolins should be on the short lists of brands to review.
