When I got to work this morning, I turned on my computer and checked into the cafe - standard operating procedure. I scanned the classifieds and saw that someone was selling a Flatiron A5 Artist for $900.00! Of course that was too tempting so I sent a reply to the seller. I was hoping to get more info as the ad was a bit brief. Later today, I check back and the ad is gone and no reply from the seller.

Someone out there may have wound up with a great deal. Report back here when you receive the Mando to give us an update.

Geeze...a $900.00 Flatiron Artist A5. Sounds too good to be true...

I saw it too. He must have changed his mind. I've seen it happen before

Same thing here. Emailed the seller for photos of the mandolin, but no response. Less than 30 minutes later the ad was gone.

The seller was K. Sewell--seems like it said Nashville or somewhere close by. I wonder if that's the guitar player/singer who played with Sam Bush last year?

Yes, a tad out of the ordinary. Surely a mistake in the listing price http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Pete-

Thanks for keeping track of, and posting, these price histories. A great reference and I hope you have fun doing it. Any factual imformation on the Cafe is welcome to me.

Now that I hijacked this thread, let's all go back to dreaming about a $900.00 Flatiron.

Interesting! - I have a '99 FI(early Gibby/G'nashville) "A" PERFORMER that I was "thinking" of advertising(Cafe) for $950 ; wasn't too sure I could "get it"($$!??) - I feel better now.., But the Flatiron(!?) is really gett'n a great "bark" & "balance" to it! - It must'a suspected my....thoughts. Maybe later.. Thanks for the info. Moose. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I could see a Nashville Flatiron Performer A going for $900 - $950 but not an Artist.

The seller probably meant to put $1900.

Just a few years back, after already buying a '93 A-5 Artist, the same model was being offered by FQMS for something like $1,300. I was sick! I immediately called them to find out what was really wrong with it, but it was in great condition. Of course, it got snapped up quickly by a happy buyer somewhere. I guess the sellers just held Flatiron in low esteem for some reason. I would not part with mine for under $3,000, simply because it stacks up with any "A" I've ever played; Collings, Gibson, whatever.

Another shocker occured last year when a Montana-built F-5 Master Model was offered by an individual for $3,600. Only about 50 of these were built and are as fine as any Gibson of that era (as are the F-5 Artists) selling for over $4,000.
