I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to go to this but it doesn't look like I'm going to be able to make it this time. If it's not sold out, I might try to get a ticket last minute if I have the $$

I'm going!!!! The show's almost sold out, but not quite (can still get tickets through Pinecone). Now I just need to figure out what to do with the kids. . . . . (somehow I don't think my heavy metal son would get $22 worth of enjoyment out of this one)

You guys are in for a treat!

I went to the Winston Salem show, and enjoyed it very much. Mike moves back and forth between mando and mandocello without missing a beat. It takes me a while to adjust between short scale and long scale mandolins, so I was impressed. Chris fingerpicked the mandocello on one tune. The encore was a surprise. I won't spoil it for you.

Hey guys, I wish I would have gone!

Instead I was down the street (in Raleigh) watching a "country" band that was (for about the same ticket price) actually pretty boring.

Ah welll, live and learn...

But, to all you Raleigh folks that posted, do you want to organize a cafe meet-up? I've got 2 pretty nice mandos that I would love to hear played by someone besides me!

What do you think?

So how was the Raleigh show?

It was exactly what you might expect from Thile and Marshall. . . .Incredible!! What I found particularly impressive was their synchronization (personally I think anyone who can break into 32nd notes in perfect harmony--neither player missing a note--should be punished for making everyone else's inadequacy so obvious). I'd seen both of them before individually, but the musical interplay between them made the sum even better than the individual parts. It was an interesting cross of musics, going all the way from the Brandenburg Concertos to 'Molly and Tenbrooks' and some of their original work wouldn't fit in any particular 'style.'

Or, to put it more concisely: Uh, yeah, good show. #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
