View Full Version : Black Diamond Strings
Anyone ever try Black Diamond Strings? I have heard some good things about them and also heard that they have a black coating on them similar to the Elixers. #
What is everyones favorite strings for the Mandolin? I use Elixers now but have been considering trying something to see how my Breedlove responds, any suggestions?

I have been using Diaddaro J74's for three years now. I broke a string at a jam a few weeks ago and a friend gave me a set of Black Diamond 74's. I am very much impressed! They have been on my mando every since and seem to sound better every day. I think I may be converted! And by-the-way, The Cherryholmes Band uses Black Diamond for mando and guitar.

I swore I would never use them as long as the message board on their website was nothing but a porn site. Very unprofessional. I looked at it again yesterday and now their message board is offline so maybe I can give those strings a try! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
I think most people who used them died of old age.

I use the black coated BDs on my Martin guitar, and theyare great. The coating comes off in places after a time. Played a mandolin with some weel worn ones on it, and it was good playing and sounding. They are coated phosphor bronze if that helps.

Hey now, I'm far from dead and I use them. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif I think they sound great on my Weber. You can get them in standard bronze with no coating.

You tell 'em, Wayne!! - Havn't tried the "new" BD's, but the "original" BD's were THE string(IMHO) - use'd ta' buy 'em for $1.25 A SET!! - Of course, MAPES always gave you extra 1st,2nd and 3rd's. - anybody remember Silver Bell strings? - now, THEY was BAD!!##(and gas was .30 a gallon!) - Moose-the-elder. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I tried them once and did something I have never done with any string I have ever tried... I took them back of after only being on a few hours.
My 40something year old reading glasses needing eyes could not see the black strings on the dark ebony fretboard!
I didn't hate the strings but they are not for me.
