You got there ahead of us, Alex, stuck here on the other side of the pond. How does the year look so far? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

As one of the first members of the Board who saw the New Year in, I would like to assure you, that it looks like it will be a peaceful and succesful year. I don`t like to go in details, but I have my reasons to think that way.
I wish you a lot of health, a lot of pleasent moments with your relatives and friends and of course a lot of wonderful mandolin events!
Back to the Wiener Philharmoniker Concert!
Best,
Plamen

Hello All,
Thanks for all the New Year greetings! And Plamen, let's indeed hope that the World will get a safer from human violence spared place. I really hope your prediction will work out.
Yes John, You are right; we are six hours ahead and somehow I had the idea of posting my New Year greetings to you all at 00.00 hours and - to my surprise - managed to time it exactly pressing the Add Reply (or Start New Topic) button at the 'right' time #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif .
As for how the coming year looks like... well many things mandolinistic are already scheduled to take place in 2006. Besides my lectures/performances on old Guitars and Mandolins and the writing I do on this subject, I like best to work with the people of HET CONSORT.
Here are some things that are already boiling; a 'rehearsal #and recording schedule' is in the make for our a new CD of the Mandolin Chamber Orchestra HET CONSORT. It is likely to start in February.
In the mean time we also will take up new works (some compositions are even brand new and composed for us) in our repertoire for the CONSORT's planned concerts at home and abroad this coming year. The 1st concert in our agenda is planned on the 1st http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif #of April and for that occasion we will première two original American compositions.
Invitations for concerts abroad come from France (scheduled for September) and Italy (dates not jet fixed, but I'll keep you updated on that).
One of the other highlights this year will be one or more concerts we hope to do with Richard (Walz) as the mandolin soloist. Dates and arrangements for that are in the make.
And then there are also the Musicschool concerts for which my class is preparing a contribution for a Concert Marathon with only Mozart music. 2006 is yet another Mozart year, as you probably all know. This marathon idea (not mine, although I like Mozart very much...) will take place on the 27th (if I remember well) of Januari in Zwolle our hometown and of course the 2 songs and the Aria with mandolin, a.o. works, will be performed.
As always there are lots of ideas too. And what's good about ideas is that from the 10 or so perhaps only 1 #survives. One of the the things in mind is to make a chamber music CD with my mandolin students. Just for fun, a compilation of nice pieces for solo mandolin and duos and trios etc. We will see if this will be realized this year. Probably there will be a lot more to come when time goes by.
Fun!
I hope every body here will have a healthy and prosperous 2006! And do go on informing the people of the message board about your mandolinistic events!
Best greetings,
Alex #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Well, dear friends... albeit belated, my wishes are no less warm: just back from Santo Domingo, 30º Celsius. #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Now, coping with chilly, rainy New York...
2006 will probably be one of the most decisive years of my adult life but, instead of hazarding this or that guess in advance, I will allow things to flow, and report accordingly— better yet, I will let you know of my actual latest WORKS as they come along.
At least my Latin brush-up has gone well so far... #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
Cheers to one and all, vostram salutem omnibus,
Victor

... and, on the subject of (sorely needed) peace, Cicero put it best with his most psychologically penetrating comment after the civil war, instigated by the conflict between Julius Caesar and Pompeius, that so dreadfully ravaged Rome:
...multaque [omnis homo] fecit armatus, quae idem togatus [...] prohibuisset.
"... and every man did much while at war (literally: while bearing arms/armor), the very same things that he himself would have sternly prohibited while at peace (literally: while wearing a toga and not armor)."
It is good that we, ehm... bring our togas back in fashion. #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

It looks like 2006 will be a good year for the mandolin...and Latin awareness among mandolinists! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Happy New Year Victor!
With wishes for a peaceful, happy and productive year,
