We were honored again to be asked to play at the Oxnard Rescue mission family Christmas Dinner. We practiced all our Christmas songs the night before and had 'em all down. We sounded great.
Unfortunately, our singer/guitarist player couldn't remember the keys we practiced in, and insisted on playing in strange keys that nobody else could play in, and worst yet, he couldn't sing in! The fiddler and I got completely lost, because the guitarist put a kapo on, called on the key and started playing, but he wasn't playing in the key he called... Once we figured out where we were, we could play along after a fashion, but the banjo player was completely left out.
Oh, yeah, the sound system didn't work. Just as well.
So we gave up trying to perform and we asked for requests, and we got all the little kids and thier moms to sing and dance to "Rudolf" and "Frosty". We also did an impromptu version of "Feliz Navidad."
The cook came out and asked us if we were ready to eat...We had an early Christmas dinner of carne asada, beans, rice, tortillas, and, of course, tamales.
Today we are having our Robert's family tradition: Thanksgiving dinner (turkey and all the fixins) for Christmas. But I think I'll add tamales to the annual tradition.
Merry Christmas to you and your families, and my God richly bless you all.
