I will be a first time visitor to Charlotte next Monday and Tues flying in from Boston on Monday morning. Where would I go to check out mandos for sale and/or a BG music scene on Monday nite ? Any suggestions would be helpful.

Funny, I just flew from Boston to Charlotte and back a few days ago. There's a wonderful website with musical resources all along the Blue Ridge Parkway. It's at least an hour from Charlotte, but don't miss it if you're going:

Last weekend I stumbled into something called the Allaghany Jubilee in Sparta, NC -- local bluegrass band plays three nights a week; it was a good time with several generations of families going out to dance together. The band very graciously invited me to sit in, and I got to play mando the rest of the night, while my wife learned some regional dances. It seems there are local dances and concerts like this all along the Blue Ridge Parkway; you just have to research them a little bit.
The next person who accuses bluegrass of being "commercial" is going to get an earful from me. . . .

Exit 50? Broad Street, Left at top of ramp into town.
ALL acoustic, NO electric stuff.
They have the best selection of used mandos,
banjos, new and used Martins and Gibsons.

It is NE of Charlotte.
Go out I-85 North, to go to Concord.
Approx 1/2 hour drive.
I was in the store last weekend.
Small selection.
Had a F-bodied Shue, a local builder.
Weber Hyalite.
Odd ball F-body with Gibson inlayed headstock,
with a black painted body.
There are a couple other mandos.
Selection of used Gibson and Martin acoustics.
Local to Charlotte are big retailers,
Sam Ash and Gtr Center.
Not much of anything worth stopping.
Electrics, etc.
