I just read today that Scottish bagpipe master Gordon Duncan was found dead in his home. He was 41 years old!! Haven't seen any info regarding what happened, but the music has suffered a sad and enormous loss.

His most recent recording, "Thunderstruck", does have some very fine bouzouki playing on several tracks. I feel very sad about this.

It is indeed a terrible loss. He was a very good composer, and many of his tunes like Zito the bubbleman, Pressed for time, The famous baravan, The Ramnee ceilidh, The high drive etc are played at sessions all the time.

There is a thread about him on www.footstompin.com which you might be interested in.

I'm afraid the story is that he took his own life, although I haven't actually seen this in writing anywhere.

Scotland has lost a number of major figures this year, including Martyn Bennett and John D. Burgess.
