Man, I knew the guy was good, but Scary and In the Lion's Den are awesome compositions. He is amazing. I was wondering if anyone could recommend some of his other recordings. I am thinking of getting gator strut. On countysales.com they have it listed as Anger/Marshall Gator Strut and was wondering if it is the same as his solo album.

You might also check out the other Psychograss recordings, there we two before this one. I really liked one called Like Minds.
If you're into the Mike Marshall thing you might also check into some of the earier David Grisman recordings as well.

Darol Anger is on that CD (along with another violinist,
Balakrishnan). Buy it. It's not exactly cohesive,
if that matters, but there is some really great stuff
on it, esp. the title cut.

Two must-haves, IMHO, if you're a Marshall fan:
"The Duo" - just Mike and Darol, this one was recently re-released on CD
"At Home and On the Range - The Duo Live" - Again, just Mike and Darol, showing what 20 years of playing together can do. Simply amazing the sound they can get with just two instruments. And both albums have some great original compositions.

Thanks for the suggestions. I should have mentioned that I already have Like Minds, and At Home and On The Range. I love all of it, but I was blown away by his playing on the new psychograss album. I have recently started working on Hot Nickels. I am about half way through. Started yesterday, but the song is getting harder the farther i get in it. Also what do you guys think of Matt Flinner? I saw him live a few years ago with Grier and Phillips, but that was before i played mandolin, so i didn't pay much attention to him. Are any of his albums good?
Caleb
I like Latitude and The View From Here by Flinner and I'd kill for his tone. I find I have to concentrate a bit when I listen to his stuff.
I really like the first Psycograss CD but I don't listen to it for the mandolin playing as much as the way the music is put together. All scary players.

Thile and Marshall's duo recording Into the Cauldron is a must listen. They really do some great picking on there. You get a little bit of Tradtional songs, Thile songs, Marshall songs, Thile/Marshall songs, and some more covers. Just great all around mandolin playing.

I have the Thile/Marshal Caldron and Marshall Anger Duo Live CDs. Both are superb. The Gator Strut makes me wanna play Mandocello. Cauldron has so many fun songs on it. I bet that show would be outta this world. They sound like they're having a blast.

I have been listening to Brazil Duets by Marshall for the last two days straight. I just can't seem to get enough of it. The man can just do it all. I just bought Mike Marshall and Choro Famoso, can't wait to give it a listen.
