I hope I don't sound like too much of a Graham McDonald groupie, although I could become one. I was leafing through The Bouzouki Book last night and it's just full of answers to questions that get asked here all the time. Some is opinion, of course, but it's all useful, even for those who have no intention of ever trying to build an instrument. You can get your copy from Stew-Mac here: http://www.stewmac.com/shop....ki.html (http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Books,_plans/Building_and_repair:_Bouzouki.html)
Check it out. You'll be glad you did.

I'll be a second to highly recommend the book. It's made building zooks a lot less daunting, and has great info for players on things like history, terminology, scale lengths, string gauges, tunings, and more ;)
