I was hoping to try to write one for them, but just havn't had time to work on it and havn't had the lightning bolt instant inspiration either. Party is Saturday. What should I play and sing?

There is a song called "The Wedding Song" that could work for a milestone such as that. It was played at my wedding and was just beautiful.

Well, it may not seem original, but I think "The Anniversary Waltz" would sound good on mando.

slightly askew but "on the street where you live" is such a lovely melody and brings back fond memories (hopefully) of courtship.

A couple of favorites of mine are --
John Gorka's "Part of Your Own"
Lyle Lovett's "Family Reserve"
I have a tab for Anniversary Waltz, post an e-mail if you'd like it. It's a simple melody, decidedly Italianesque.

Thanks for the ideas, guys. J. Mark, I forgot about "Family Reserve". I love Lyle! Alan, that sounds like a good one too. My email is shanejennings 'at' cox.net
Thanks!

Urrrr.... Hmmmmmm. I dunno... "In My Life." Beatles
Hey! I'm serious! Can I sneek a couple of those tiny bottles-o'-booze in my carry-on? I don't know the ropes! But I'm terrified of flying!

To the tune of the Elvis Presley song.
Are you lonesome tonight,
Does you tummy feel tight?
Did you bring your mylanta and tums?
Does your memory stray,
To that bright sunny day...
When you had all your teeth and your gums?<\p>
Is your hairline receding?
Are your eyes growing dim?
Hysterectomy for her, and itīs prostate for him.
Does your back give you pain ...
Do your knees predict rain?<\p>
Tell me dear, are you lonesome tonight?<\p>
Is your blood pressure up,
Your good cholesterol down?
Are you eating your low fat cuisine?
All that oat bran and fruit,
Metamucil to boot,
Keeps you like a well-oiled machine.<\p>
If itīs football, or baseball ...
He sure knows the score.
Yes, he knows where itīs at ...
But forgets what itīs for.
So, your gall bladderīs gone,
But his gout lingers on.<\p>
Tell me dear, are you lonesome tonight?<\p>
When youīre hungry, heīs not,
When youīre cold, then heīs hot.
Then you start that old thermostat war.
When you turn out the light,
He goes left, you go right.
Then you get his great symphonic snore.<\p>
He was once so romantic,
And witty and smart.
Howīd he turn out to be
Such a cranky old ####?
So donīt take any bets,
This is as good as it gets.<\p>
Tell me dear, are you lonesome tonight?<\p>

Vince Gill's "Look At Us" is a great anniversary tune.

An old Lefty Frizzell song...
Mom and Dad's Waltz
I'd walk for miles, cry and smile for my Mama and Daddy.
I want them, I want them to know,
How I feel, my love is real for my Mama and Daddy.
I want them to know I love them so.
In my heart, joy tears start, `cause I'm happy.
And I pray, every day, for Ma and Pappy.
And each night.
I'd walk for miles, cry and smile for my Mama and Daddy.
I want them to know I love them so.
Instrumental break.
And in my heart, joy tears start, `cause I'm happy.
And I pray, every day, for Ma and Pappy.
And each night.
I'd walk for miles, cry and smile for my Mama and Daddy.
I want them to know I love them so.
I love them so.
To go along with the other thread about songs that make you cry... #This is one of 'em.
Here's Lefty (http://sg1.allmusic.com/cg/smp.dll?link=wqpe97uhjcncguty1yvz5a0&r=20.asx) singin' it.
And either Dawg or Sammy (http://sg1.allmusic.com/cg/smp.dll?link=p47ui9depmsru0svr7wz2yx&r=20.asx) playin' it.
If you want to crack on them a bit, learn The Coupon Song that Cousin Wilbur sang with the Blue Grass Boys in the early 40s.
But I'd give a hearty second to the Lennon/McCartney tune, In My Life, as the serious tribute.

What about "You Still Call Me Baby" by Mountain Heart.
Alan plays a great break on that and there is actually a line that says "it's been forty years...." which I think would be appropriate. Congratulations that your parents are still together in a time when divorce is running rampant even in older couples.

If they are over 60 it's okay to sing the song "You Don't Look Good Naked Anymore" Not sure who wrote it but it goes over big at those type parties.

I like the idea of the Beatle's, "When I'm 64." Or if they are more country-standard types how about, "Through the Years" by Kenny Rogers. I use it often for wedding videos that I make.

Try "Big Silver Moon Over Dallas".
It's written and sang by "The Boys From Indiana", and it would make a great anniversary song.
