NC was here in Orlando at the HOB on Monday. They put on a good show but not as good as last year. Didn't seem to have as much energy. The place was packed though. Thile came out playing a mandola or mandocello that sounded like crap and thats being kind. He only played it on a few songs but that was too many. The vocals were marginal but the musicianship was great!

Hmmm, thats interesting and disapointing all at the same time! Probably being my favorite band, I hate to hear that a show didnt go so well! Mandocello or mandola, huh? I didnt know Thile played those- although I'm not surprised! Are you sure it wasnt a bouzouki? He definetly plays a bouzouki and he plays it on "The Smoothie Song"

As far as what he plays, theres a lot(and I'm sure theres more i dont know): mando, fiddle, guitar, bouzouki, drums, bass, and i think you are right, he may play banjo as well. However, I have never seen him play this, but I dont think we are supposed to speak that word here http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

It was a great show and the Nirvana cover was excellent. That is the bouzouki that Chris plays on the first two, including the Smoothie Song, and I must say that it didn't sound too great...the tone that is, and not his playing. The mando sounded great though.

i'm going to see them in grantham, pa saturday. They have been hands down my favorite of all concerts I've been to. I saw them at the Birchmere, up in Amherst, MA, down at Radford, VA, and at a folk festival in Charles Town, WV. I haven't seen a bad show yet. Hopefully this continues! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif
