My wife is wondering what I like for Christmas. #I was wondering if you guys had any recommendations for Bluegrass DVDs. #Not necessarily instructional, but maybe conert/festival footage. #I remember enjoying "The Three Pickers" when PBS ran it and maybe I ought to get that DVD. #However, there ought to be others. #I have not seen "Bluegrass Journey" - is that good?
I'm open to your ideas.

I'll second the Rhonda Vincent DVD. Very enjoyable.
I like Bluegrass Journey a lot, along with Tony Rice's DVD. #For a CD, I think the relatively new Clay Jones CD is excellent - #lots of Adam Steffey.

The Three Pickers is Great, also look for The 30th Telluride Bluegrass Festival on DVD that one is fun with the behind the scene stuff and loaded with a variety of music.

Good ideas. I didn't know Doyle Lawson had a DVD out. Is it concert footage or what?

If you haven't seen it already, I would recommend "The High Lonesome Sound" if it's available on DVD.

Just seen DLQS Friday, Dec. 9 in Berryville, VA. Excellant show, by the way! #Doyles DVD is called "Through The Years", celebrating 25 years of Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver.
It features "Live" concert performances (recorded in Nashville,TN) of all of the former "Quicksilver" members from beginning (past) to present. They perform songs from albums they were on when with Doyle at the time.
It's over two hours long. It's amazing seeing the former members that was with him then who have now moved on to join or form other nationally known acts. Look around in local music stores or order it on line from www.doylelawson.com

I have almost every one of the DVDs in this thread with "The Three Pickers" due this week. The Gaither Bluegrass Homecoming 1 & 2 are real standouts, but if I had only one, it wold be "Rhonda Vincent Live". This DVD is ALMOST as good as being six rows back at one of their shows.

I will comment on one thing between Rhonda's and Doyle's DVD... Rhonda's DVD, "Ragin' Live" has a menu option/scene-song selection that allows you to go right to a particular song where with Doyle's, you have to scan through until you come to a place that you haven't viewed yet.
In other words, after the first night of watching a good 45 min. to an hour of this live concert, the next day that I put the DVD in to play it I had to sit through watching it "scan" to a place that I hadn't seen yet.
Having STILL not watched it in it's entirety, I'll have to once again scan through 3/4 of the DVD to view it unless I want to see it all form the beginning. I wish that DVD had the same "song selection" options.
Still, a GREAT DVD!! # http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif # #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/coffee.gif
