Not sure if this is the right place to post this. But here it goes.

I just got back from 5 wonderful days in Santa Barbara to celebrate our 30th anniversary. That's where I went to school and where we went for our honeymoon 30yrs ago. We had a great time.

But the real reasons for the posting. We ran across a funky music store dedicated to acoustic folk and world instruments called FolkMote. It has web site. All kinds of neat instruments, CD's, sheet music, you don't get in the big stores. She (Sherry) has hammered and mountain dulcimers, banjos, a steel drum thingy, flutes, whistles, tons 'o harps... all kinds of stuff.

She also had several Mid-Mos hanging up for anyone that might be interested. The prices seemed reasonable. There was a used MM-8 for $330, a used Mini-Mo for $265, a new M4-W for $629, a new M2-W for $585, an new M0-W $475. Seemed like reasonable prices. The used pieces were in very clean shape and all the instruments sounded real nice. She also had several Michael Kelly's hanging up.

We also spent several fun evenings in Dargan's, an Irish pub and restaurant. Had a great time at the Thursday night session night and some good Irish grub on Friday night.

So if you find yourself in Santa Barbara, several fun things to do.

the usual disclaimer: I have no interest in any sales. Just posting because I saw them and know there is interest here for these instruments and for fun things to do.

A agree, Folk Mote is a fun store to visit: it's kind of like a small Lark in the Morning, but with a better mandolin selection, knowledgeable staff, and customer service. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

We spend most of our Xmas' in Ojai, and two years ago I visited Folk #Mote with my nephew. We both had a blast -- I spent quite a while playing several Mid Mo's and Webers, and my nephew was enamoured with the more exotic and non-standard instruments in their inventory.

Hey I'm bringing back an OLD post but i just thought I'd update it. Folk Mote music is still there and still has a lot of great instruments. I actually bought a Big Muddy M2 there and I've also bought a few fun noise-making toys for my nephews - heh heh. So if you're ever in Santa Barbara, check it out.
