I finally got around to seeing this. The story line is really silly, but the music is terrific. Better in some cases than the orignal Beatles recordings. The uncredited bass player is simply AMAZING. the movie is worth seeing just for his playing alone.

A lot of people have said that the movie is silly and dumb and not worth seeing. In some ways they are right, but the music is so good that it supercedes everything else.

Mike, I hope you're being sarcastic.
That movie was one of the worst I've ever seen in my life.
The music was just as bad.
As a huge Beatles fan, I couldn't wait for that movie and album to come out. I bought the album first, and promptly threw it out. Didn't see the movie until years later, and could only watch about 30 minutes of it.

Mando content...NONE

The best part of the movie was Aerosmith playing the bad guys...But even Frampton has said that the movie was a low point...still, I think it is so bad, it's worth the laugh...
Mando content: Frampton owns several mandolins. I don;t know the make, but would suggest since he plays a Les Paul they'd be Gibson. :-)

You realize that movie killed the careers of the two top acts of the day, Peter Frampton and the Bee Gees. Actually, it did not help Steve Martin very much either.

Guys, I have to agree, the plot of the movie is really dumb, and appears to be geared at 5 year olds. And the acting is practically non-existant. But the MUSIC is wonderful.

Give it another shot, and this time pay attention to the music, especially the bass playing, rather than the visuals or the admittedly silly and infantile story line.

I am referring not to the perfromances of Peter Frampton and the Bee Gees, but rather to the session players laying down the beds and backgrounds. Whoever these musicians were (they are not listed in the credits,) they were on fire when they did the sessions, and IMHO, their performance (again, the bass player in particular) is more than enough to redeem the film's other shortcomings.

I saw that movie when I was a kid and thought that it was horrible.

If you want to see something that will blow you mind away, see the "Darkside of the Rainbow". ( Pink Floyd's Darkside of the Moon mixed with the Wizard of Oz ).

Boy does that bring back some hazy memorieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz................

I've got the complete set of bubble gum cards that came out from it. Fantastic music score throughout. Acting not so good. Even Elton was not that good on the acting part.
Barry Gibb played the bass in the band.

As it happens I should have that album somewhere. It was one of the very first albums I ever bought, in a second hand record shop as a naive 14-year old. I had heard people mention "Sgt Pepper" as the high point of pop music, and thought that this was it. Didn't take me long to figure out it wasn't when I got the album home...

I dug Billy Preston doing "Get Back" - a possible bluegrass tune?
