Ive had this tune rolling around in my head. Its an old Stanley Bros song.(what else? im a stanley freak.) Its in 3-4 time and it was done very slow and soulful. Real traditional. It begins: "In the green rolling hills of West Virginia"......Not much to go on, I know. But maybe someone can identify it.
I started to pick it tonight and it really is straight forward and easy to play. But man, does it sound good on this mando!! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

u sure it's not, "in the deep rolling hills of ole Virginia"
If so, it would probably be 'White Dove'.

Green Rollin Hills

Oh the green rolling hills of West Virginia
Are the nearest thing to Heaven that I know
Though the times are sad and drear
And I cannot linger here
They'll keep me and never let me go.

My Daddy said don't ever be a miner
For a miner's grave is all you'll ever own
Cause of hard times everywhere
I can't find a dime to spare
These are the worst times I've ever known.

So I'll move away into some crowded city
In some northern fact'ry town you'll find me there
though I'll leave the past behind
I'll never change my mind
These troubled times are more than I can bear

But someday I'll go back to West Virginia
To the green rolling hills I love so well
Yes, someday I'll go home
And I know I'll right the wrong
These troubled times will follow me no more

Yes, someday I'll go home
And I know I'll right the wrong
These troubled times will follow me no more.

White Dove! BINGO!!!! Egads, what a great great song. Makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Any newbies out there that like traditional bluegrass, play that song. Its doable and it sounds great and you can do all kinds of stuff with it. I havent heard it in years and it just popped in my head. Outstanding. Thanks. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif
