Yes, it is fun to have a go ad hoc with some folks you hardly know playing just about anything. I met a fellow mandolin player in an airport one time and we sat down and played for about 45 minutes. He played Celtic and I, Bluegrass, so he played rhythm and I just picked along in G. To our suprise, a fellow bought us both a beer in appreciation. It was just fun.

Yep, its a really blast to play in front of an audience. Last Saturday, I dropped by a coffee shop where some friends were gigging that night with their newly formed fiddle band. The invitation email said there would be a jam afterwards so I brought my mandolin along but left it in the car.

After they played awhile and really rock the house with some OT fiddle music, the lead fiddler asked me if I brought my mandolin. So I got a chance to play with them for about an hour. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

It was great, we really packed the house. Later, I found out that they broke the cash register for that night and the coffee shop make more than any Saturday since they opened. Although I can't take credit for that! Carol Ann Wheeler showed up that night, she is a National OT Fiddle Champion, National Irish Fiddle Champion, etc. The woman can play the fiddle (The next day, Ms Wheeler gave a fiddle workshop for our OT fiddle association which my daughter attended.)

It was great fun and addicting, almost like MAS. #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
