So there I was drooling over Jeff's table of mandolins at the fall gathering of bluegrass fans in Springfield Ill. over the weekend. when I asked Jeff if he would take a trade for one of his lebadas and he says lets see what you've got. So I have my violin adviser play play the two point and he sayes yea this is nice. so I reach over and pick up the A4 off the table and asked him to try this one. he hits the first cord and his jaw hits the ground. their an fiddle player sitting there so we get a 15 minute jam with guy on mandolin and this really good fiddle player going. So I sayes to Jeff I'll trade you this for that and he replied OK i can do that. So I have to beat Guy in the head to get my mandolin away from him then had to wipe the drool stains off of it that he left on it. Yea I know it's not a bluegrass mandolin but I don't care It is a great mandolin in its own right. It has that old Gibson oval hole sound. Thanks Jeff your the man. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

What's the S/N on your A4? I got an A5 master model from Jiri in May, S/N 341/05. I had the same reaction when I picked it up for the first time at European World of BG -- I've got to have it!! It has a particularly good wide-grained top (see photo)

Oh, and I forgot to react to your "it's not a BG mandolin". Tell that to Red Rector (see photo) who played some pretty mean mandolin I'd definitely call BG with Carl Story, Bill Clifton, Reno & Smiley... BG is an approach to music, not an instrument!

I am new to the message board and wanted to second the thoughts about Jeff and Lebeda mandolins. I just received my new F5 PP Fern Lebeda with antique color and binding and the short S shaped fingerboard extension. While I have only played around 100 different mandolins and none of the top shelf, my new mandolin is by far the best mandolin I have ever played. Jeff was a pleasure to deal with and I got a truely great mandolin. You cannot go wrong dealing with Jeff and Jiri.
