On Wednesday of IBMA week, there was a free concert at Bongo Java (a coffee shop with a 60's feel about it) with Mike Compton and David Long. It was sponsered by Cotten Music, Mandolin Cafe and a instrument maker whose name escapes me. If anybody that was there could provide the makers name, I would be appreciative. With the exception of the guitar that Mike played, they played that maker's instruments, all of which had a great sound. It was fun to see two Monroe style pickers (down, down, down) go at it. The music selection and the comentary by Mike made for a rich experience. Those are two awsome pickers who compliment each others playing. Mike when playing guitar sounded much like Doc Watson with those wonderful bass runs. They did some songs with Mike playing the octave mando countering David. If you have a chance to see those two, especially in such a small intiment setting like Bongo Java, go.
