I tried one on my 20s Gibson A. Not good. Loud, but harsh and brittle. I settled for an ebony Brekke---MUCH sweeter, better sound.

I have played Mandolins made by Steve Tourtellotte with his bridges that sounded great. I don't think putting one on an older instrument is a fair accessment of the bridge. They need to be fitted and that can make a huge difference.
