Here is a nice conversion from way back. #Notice how the lines flow nicely. #The F4 sides and back make it very easy to preserve the original clean lines and produce a Loaresque looking instrument. #No financial interest here, but this is a great price too.

Speaking of F4 conversions...Darryl..are you familiar with Jeff Terflinger?...he used to play with the Katie Laur band in the late 70's and early 80's?....he had an absolutely monster F4 to F5 conversion I think done by Bob White....Jeff split to San Fransisco back then and neither him or that mando has been seen since. Have you got any pics of it?

Okay, for those of us who don't know - what exactly is an F4 conversion? Is it just replacing the top so that the instrument has f-holes instead?

..alot of times it consists of a new top and a longer neck...

so, is the robbie robertson who did the conversion the same robbie robertson that played guitar in the band?

That's the way I recall. I lived in Cleveland until 1968..or the grand old age of 16

I asked Banana about Robbie Robertson and he said it is *not* the same Robbie Robertson as The Band...

For a while, Banana had a conversion done by Steve Gilchrist that was a beauty, both in tone and looks. I guess because of the Gil connection, it was selling for something like $12K, otherwise I would have bought it.

Is this the same mando that was on the classifieds here a month or two ago? I think it was somewhere in the midwest? I was curious about it but could not bring myself to "pull the trigger" sight unseen.
