View Full Version : The Fall Classic "Take Me Out To The Ball Game"
As the Fall Classic fast approaches us, I thought it would be appropriate to work out a version of this tune and post it here for all of us to hear how we each play it. I just recorded a down and dirty version of Sam Bush's first break of "Take me out to the Ballgame" on the Howlin at the Moon CD.
I can't wait to hear how the rest of you play this tune. It's one of those melody's that just sticks in your head.

Hey Jim,
Nice PIcking there, I don't have a way to post a recording, but I really like your version. Some nice tone coming from that mandolin. Is that your Elliot?

Good picking! I just finished watching the Astros finish off the Cards (with regrets to Sam Bush). I was thinking of starting a thread on mandos and baseball but you beat me to it.
I love to sit back in my easy chair, watch baseball and noodle on a mando. I sometimes get good stuff with such absent-minded noodling. It's also a good time to build muscle memory for new tunes. Anybody else?
Oh yeah... WAHOO! The Series comes to Texas! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

every year about this time my practice time takes a dive. It was that way on guitar and now on mandolin. During the regular season I can watch a game and work on scales and arpeggios and such but with the playoffs my whole routine gets blown to bits. what really stinks I'm not all that knowledgeable about the game or a very good mandolinist. Maybe playing take me out to the ball game is the solution. Nice version. I think Don Stiernberg has one on one of his discs, too (but i think he's a cubs fan) Go Sox!
I was hoping some of you would post your version of this tune as well. Get those recorders out and lets hear it. I just used a cheap computer mic and recorded directly into the windows program, "Sound Recorder". If you can record the song and don't have a way to host it, let me know and I can put the file up for you.
John, yes, that is my Elliott. It's almost a year old now and I'm really happy with the tone. It just keeps getting better and better.

Pardon me, but I can't help myself--home run. I recently got a chance to hear Sam play his version which included the "Impossible Dream" intro, which I had never heard before. I enjoyed your version as much as anything I've heard lately--you knocked it out of the park, touch 'em all, etc, etc.
Pat, thanks for the compliments. It's a fun tune to play and I really enjoyed learning it from the Sam Bush Howling at the Moon CD.
