I posted this in the equiptment section with no response. If anyone can help I'd appreciate it.

Looking for some advise on a pickup for a mandolin. I play in an Irish/Rock band and mic my mando and banjo. Works OK for the banjo but I'd like a hotter signal to the board for the mandolin. I am not a techie or equiptment junkie. Looking for something simple and not too expensive. I plan to mix a pickup and mic signal. I use a shure 57 with a 28 Gibson A-jr. Any thoughts on the BARCUS BERRY OUTSIDER PICKUP or similar approach. Not really looking to alter the mandolin much. Thanks- Mike

Check out the McIntyre pickups and a preamp. The pickup is just around $100 and preamps are a bit less than $100. The pickup sticks on and the jack is a carpenter style that clamps to the mando body.

Worked well with a warm sound.

plunkett5 - I am not a techie either and I don't know a lot about the different pick ups but I have a BARCUS BERRY OUTSIDER on my older mando and it worked out great. It is a really strong signal. I used it in bar's but for most Bluegrass show's I didn't use it because people thought you were playing an electric mando.... Silly I know.
