Hello

Does anyone know if it is possible to snip off the XLR connector off the schertler and put on a 1/4 female jack? I have been told it was, but i just wanted to know if anyone has tried?

thanks

Alex

Since the Schertler is a balanced, low impedance output pickup (like a microphone) you can certainly swap the male XLR plug for a 1/4" TRS inline jack, and then use a 1/4" male TRS plug-to-male XLR plug cable. You may find it advantageous to use an impedance matching transformer if you're going into a high-impedance input on an amplifier or mixer board. I'm in the process of figuring out a solution for mounting a 1/4" inline TRS jack on my armrest so I don't have to deal with that pesky, almost-long-enough cord that Schertler provides.

Might there be an adaptor?

Are you trying to plug the Schertler into an amp with a high impedence jack? #If so there are line impedence converters that plug into an XLR male and have a standard 1/4" TS male jack. #I haven't had much luck with the sound when I have tried it. #I have had much better results going into a small mixer and sending the mixer out to the amp.

If you are not trying to do this - never mind.

There are small female-XLR to male mono 1/4" adaptors... I have a small inline one but I only use it as a last resort. It's much easier just to use a balanced input IMO.

I would join the if it aint broke , dont break it, camp.
an impedance matching transformer[shure makes them too, maybe better quality] will give you the high impedance output for regular instrument amps.
the benefit of the Balanced XLR is that you plug it into a regular mic cable and then to the input on a mixer/mic preamp, a mic to 1/4" cable is common , minus transformer.
Neutrik makes XLR to TRS 1/4" adaptors, of good quality.
Id say no to a Bris for the end, you can do anything you need with adaptors and cables
there is even a nice switching F end for Mic Cables, [also Neutrik] to hot swap the pickup between instruments on stage, .

what is your reasoning? why not try a cable like this one?
