There have been a number of discussions here about Michael Kerry's superb CD, The Rocky Road. #Many have bemoaned the fact that it's difficult to obtain.

Well I thought I'd tip you off that I'm selling a copy of said CD on eBay.

Here's the link ... <a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/Michael-Kerry-The-Rocky-Road-CD-2001_W0QQitemZ4779283849QQcategoryZ43667QQssPageNa meZWDVWQ

Hope you appreciate the heads-up!

I sincerely hope that this CD goes to some fan of the "Irish mandolin" who's been trying to track down a copy of the CD for some time!!!

Regards.

Aidan

Gulp!

There's a helicopter hovering over my house as I write ... perhaps, I'd better edit that first post!!

Reminds me of the Tommy Sands song ...

"Whatever you say, say nothing
When you talk about you know what
For if you know who should hear you
You know what you'd get
They'd take you off to you know where
For you never know how long
So for you know who's sake, don't let anyone
Hear you singing this song."

Cheers ...

Aidan

Just got my copy of this record in the mail from CDBaby (http://cdbaby.com/cd/michaelkerry) and I'm loving it! Now, if folks who really like this record would like to recommend others, I'd be interested in hearing them. Also, if anyone knows how to contact Michael, could you let me know.

No clue how to contact Michael (i tried). But as for other CDs, see if you can get Dan Beimborn's Shatner the Calm (http://www.celticmusic.com/dan/shatter_the_calm.html) (which is officially sold out, but who knows... at the very least you could get the 3-track remix advertised on the same page). Dan has been working on another CD, and i'll buy that one too.

Wow, I always thought it was "Shatner the Cad"... His album, Has Been, is a riot.

(rest of original reply deleted to minimize topic drift)

I love the Rocky Road CD and only wish we could hear more from Michael. I don't know what's become of him, but know others were looking for him.

Yes, i liked "Has Been" too. It would be even better if it had mandolins. I was listening to the Bob Dylan "No Way Home" documentary today and it was surreal to hear him do "Mr Tambourine Man", but wish for the Shatner version instead.

There is a "send email" link in the CDBaby page. I tried that and didn't get a reply, but i have no way to tell if he got the email or not. His other Internet addresses seem to be dead. I imagine once the CDs CDBaby has in stock are sold, that will be it. I hope he's ok.

Yeah, I tried the CDBaby email link too... no response for a week. Michael should fire his marketing guy http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I think Shatter the Calm is available through Elderly. I ordered it today anyway, and they haven't said it isn't available yet, so fingers crossed.

Hi guys,

I have a handfull of "Shatter" disks left, and a reprint is underway.. the new one continues to be just about ready as well. Trying to fit one last track in with a friend, and actually recorded something at Loarfest on a Loar H5 I plan to use http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Michael's Rock Road is lovely by the way, just to bring this thread back to it's original focus!

As i said above, i think the CDs left at CDBaby are the end of the stash there, and once they're gone, this will become a collector's item. All signs indicate Michael has "left the building". As i said, i hope he's ok. Maybe happily playing atabaques in Ipanema.

Rocky Road and Shatter The Calm, for me, represent 2 very different playing traditions. I like to think of them as Bach and Beethoven; "Road" is understated and deceptively simple, while "Shatter" is joyfully overstated, using as many strings as possible. They're both great.

Like everybody else, i'm waiting anxiously for Aidan's coming mandolin extravaganza, because it should showcase other different styles, and because there is a serious shortage of Irish Mandolin CDs in this world.

Dan,

if you type with your elbows, no wonder you required surgery! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

hah, typing with one hand while left elbow gets healthy.

Gee, which one am I then, Bach or Beethoven? At least you didn't say "One's like Mozart, the other is like Devo"

I had a few nice emails with Michael Kerry, but it was now.. well.. 3 or more years ago I suppose. Hope he surfaces, he has very good tone control and a nice mellow rolling feel to his tunes.

I was searching on iTunes looking for a recording of the tune Inisheer and came across Michael Kerry's The Rocky Road with this tune on it. Well, I downloaded it and love it. So if any of you are still looking for this CD at least it's available on iTunes.
