Seeing how I have mastered two chords D & G(both the two fingered versions)I would REALLY love to set a goal for ...say 6 months or a year and would love to be able to play the theme tune from the film capt. corelli mandolin - anyone know where I can find a midi file or tab for this ?
thanks in anticipation - V

Try chordie.com and alltabs.com. Be very careful about going to unknown sites to get lyrics and music, you may pick up some unwanted computer stuff there. If you have a decent ear at all, I would suggest just renting the movie, recording the soundtrack and picking it out yourself. That's how I learned the Godfather theme, and my buds are duly impressed, even if its not technically perfect. Or go to a legit music store and buy the sheet music, but what's the fun in that?

If you can do the G chord, then you can do the C chord. Instead of the fingers on the A & E strings move down to the D & A strings keeping the same finger/fret positions. Now, you can do a whole I-IV-V chord progression in the key of G, G-C-D-G. Try it!!

With those three simple chords you can play a ton of great tunes. Pick up a book like FIDDLE TUNE METHOD FOR MODERN MANDOLIN: AN INTRODUCTION TO IMPROVISATION or
THE MANDOLIN PLAYER'S PASTIME: REELS, HORNPIPES, JIGS, & OTHER DANCE TUNES FOR MANDOLIN the latter book is grouped by key, so you could start playing the tunes in G and get most of the G-C-D tunes down fast and then pick the melodies from the tab/notation. The Co-mando web site has their songs usually listed by key in the name and you can hear them with the downloadable TabLedit software.
