What would be a good mandolin suggestion for a new student who is just starting out?

Also, if anyone has a "Beginner's FAQ" page that is worthwhile, please post a link.

I come from a guitar background so I would love to hear advice from other guitar players.

Finally, any suggestions for teachers in Dallas is appreciated. I have a few options, but would love to hear from others. Thanks...
