I'd like a close look at the (I gather there's only one) Loar A-model. Anyone got a website address for the definitive look (examination) at this mandolin?
Much obliged!

The album "TONE POEMS" with Tony Rice & David Grisman comes with a book describing the instruments used on each cut. There is a picture and description of this mandolin in the booklet.
I've seen a picture on the internet somewhere of Norman Blake playing the Loar A5 when it belonged to Tut, but I can't seem to find it again. Maybe Google norman Blake images.

oh my god, the king of a styles... how many arms and legs do you have to sell to buy that one...asuming of course it was for sale and that the owner was crazy enough to sell it...

It was listed for 10K in the Mandolin World classifieds back in the 70's...
From what Darryl has said, I believe it went for a small premium over a Loar F.. because it's unique, and it's an A.. if that makes sense.. the tone is reputed to be spectacular, though I've never met it! Hopefully someone has let the owner know about Loarfest West in February, I think it lives on the West coast!
